After 150 years of hellish torture at the hands of the vampire horde, Lachlain, king of the Lykae (werewolf) clan, escapes his captors. He's disoriented and full of hatred, and yet he finds the mate he's been longing for for 1200 years in a small, delicate vampire. Desperate to find information on her parents, Emmaline Troy, a timid, overprotected half vampire/ half valkyrie, had travelled to Paris away from the protection of her valkyrie aunts for the first time in her young life (she's only 70), but she manages to be kidnapped by a raging Lykae who's tender to her one minute, though-if he is reminded she's a vampire-furious the next…

Review:   Vampires, Valkyries and Lycae…OH MY!

(notice new book cover….)

A leading lady that is half vampire and half Valkyrie?  Genetic orgy….table for one!   AND she lucks out to be mated to a Lycae?  Chromosome party…come on down!

This first book in Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series does a great job of introducing the Lore mythology and a group of beings that I have come to love.

Cast of Characters:

Emmaline “Emma” Troy the Timid- Half vamp & half Valkyrie but raised all vamp by group of super-model gorgeous Valkyrie vamp-haters.  No wonder she is “the Timid”, right?  Now what would be a good name for this breed?  Vampkyrie?  Valkamp?

Lachlain MacRieve- Sexy king of the Lycae that has been imprisoned and tortured by the Vampire Horde for the last 150 years.

Ms. Timid..I mean Troy head’s over to Paris to find out who her daddy is because her mom, Helen of Troy (no pressure), never disclosed before she died.

Lachlain is trapped under Paris being burned and tortured for over a century when he smells his mate nearby.  Super-sniffer to the rescue.  Trapped as he is, he rips off his own leg to get to her.  That is determination folks.   Either that or he is really horny after no sex for so long.  Hmm…option 2 gets my vote.   One thing for sure is that he is borderline something.  All that only to find out his mate is a Vampire with Valkyrie aunts!

Well, the torture has turned Lachlain into a crazy wolf so when he captures Emma, he is brutal, threatening and gets just this side of raping her.   He kidnaps her back to his palace in Scotland.  Awwwww……poor thing.  A castle.  In Scotland.

While Emma & Lachlain are trying to sort out their relationship issues, they discover that Emma is being hunted by the Vampire Horde and her Valkyrie aunts.

No spoilers here but…well…maybe some hints.  Emma & Lachlain hook up (shocker, I know.)  Emma finds out who her daddy is and it isn’t good.  Lachlain and the aunts reach detente.

Action, drama, suspense, great plot lines and crazy, well developed adorkable characters.  The sex is hot..hot..hot once they get to it but the build-up is even hotter.  Extended foreplay.  And I just love HEA!  This book is so good, I see the start of a wonderful series with film and video game potential.  Way to go Ms. Cole!
